Photographers and artists take pleasure when their works are successfully published in magazines. In this way, a greater audience is reached and the preparation of editing makes it possible to focus and concentrate on a current work. In the first part of the workshop, Ute Noll shows how she works with artistic photography in magazines. Using examples of her editorial work, she explains how text, layout, typography and image come together into successful spreads and which questions are decisive towards this purpose: How do I compose a series of images that function well together? When is text important, what does it depend on? When are photo captions useful? Practical tips will also be discussed: How do I get editors to notice me? How can I support them in their work?

In the second part of the workshop, the participants, working together with the instructor, will develop a content-related and visual concept for a portfolio-photo-text-series as the basis for a self-publishing project. In advance, interested participants should submit a series with a minimum of 15 photos. From these submissions, two series will be chosen that will be used as illustrative examples during the course.
