The Collezione Donata Pizzi was started in 2014, and it is constantly being expanded with new acquisitions. Donata Pizzi, the passionate collector, herself a photographer and picture editor and photo-historian will talk about how the collection represents important moments in the history of Italian photography. Covering the past fifty years, her selection of works reveal the conceptual, aesthetic, and technological changes that have swept through photography in Italy. The relationship between personal and collective memory are crucial issues that emerge from the works of over 70 Italian female photographers, bringing together images from different decades and genres, from reportage to conceptual and experimental photography.

Educated in Italy, in Political Science at Milano Università degli Studi, Donata Pizzi furthered her studies at John Cass School of Arts in London and West Surrey College of Art and Design, UK. Starting in 1980 Pizzi worked with photography and photographers as an archivist and picture editor for magazines and publishers; she was the head of the Roman branch of The Image Bank, later known as Getty Images. Subsequently she pursued a career as a free-lance photographer, working for international magazines and major Italian companies, producing books and exhibitions. Since 2014 she has built up a unique ongoing collection of Italian women photographers. Collezione Donata Pizzi has recently been shown at the Milano Triennale in 2016–17, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome in 2018, and Museo di Santa Giulia, Brescia in 2019.
