Photo books are one of the original means of photographic expression. They allow insight into the photographer’s personal view of his/her environment and should emphasize the unique quality of the set of photographs as a whole. The first step in this workshop will be to make an edit of each photographers images so as to underline a personal view as well as make a selection that is impressionable. Each participants portfolios will be discussed and artistic interests will be concretized.

Besides the selection of images, other parameters such as the dramaturgy of the photographic sequence, the layout and design of the book as well as the haptic quality of the cover all play a critical role in the process of bookmaking. How to get from the photo to the dummy, from the dummy to the book. Markus Schaden and Wolfgang Zurborn have created this special format to share invaluable knowledge and answer questions about the production of a photo book. Additionally a brief history of the photo book will be presented, revealing some of the highlights of the photo book world and giving detailed insight into editions.
