Workshop schedule

Juli 16: Meeting at 4pm. At the beginning, Uwe H. Martin will give an introduction to multimedia narrative formats on the web. Afterwards, the participants will present their own project ideas to the group and start with a first practical task.


Juli 17: Meeting at 10am. Using exemplary productions, we analyse linear web documentations such as film formats and scroll reports, get to know various tools and deal with dramaturgy and media planning. The participants will sharpen their project ideas and start with implementation planning.


Juli 18: Meeting at 10am. On Sunday the focus will be on non-linear storytelling and interactive formats on the web and in space. The participants work on their own projects.


Equipment

Please bring your own project ideas and a portfolio with your own work. Anyone who has already collected material for a multimedia project should bring it with them so that we can work on it during the workshop. Headphones are required; we will work with rented Mac equipment. Further technical details will be provided when registering for the workshop.

In this intensive practical workshop the participants get to know different forms of linear and non-linear storytelling on the web while working on the conception and possible implementation of their own project. Possible results of the workshop range from the development of a trailer, exposés, financing plan or storyboards for a scrollytelling story or interactive website to the conception of spatial installations.

Uwe H. Martin is a freelance photographer, filmmaker, slow journalist and multimedia producer at the Bombay Flying Club, a storytelling agency. Together with his partner Frauke Huber, he has been documenting the social and ecological consequences of agriculture worldwide since 2007. Their work is regularly published in Geo, Spiegel and the Süddeutscher Zeitung, as well as in web documentaries and interactive apps, and exhibited internationally as multi-channel installations. Uwe H. Martin is co-founder of the international art and research project World Of Matter and of Riff-Reporter, a collaborative publication platform for independent journalism. For his work he has been awarded the German Short Film Prize, the German Reporter Prize, the Greenpeace Award and the Development Media Award. Uwe is a revered lecturer and mentor for photography, film, multimedia and transmedia storytelling within Europe, but also in Colombia, Nepal, the USA and Morocco.
