Workshop schedule
July 04: Meeting at 10 am. The workshop begins with an intensive review and discussion of participants’ portfolios. Olaf Otto Becker will give insight into the theory and practice of landscape photography with analogue large format camera, digital and analogue medium format, 35 mm camera and digital stitching. Becker will also deal with the topic of colour in photography, the correct handling of colour fields and bits and bites. On the basis of some examples of photographic art, different positions of critical landscape photography will be explained and discussed. The participants are given the topic on which they are to work individually until the second workshop weekend. There are three topics to choose from, but it is also possible to work on your own topic in coordination with the given themes. The aim of this work is to concentrate and reflect on one theme, to work on a series and to present the portfolio on the second workshop weekend.
July 05: Meeting at 10 am. Practical and technical methods of analogue large format, digital medium format and digital stitching with the 35 mm camera will be discussed further. Afterwards we will take pictures of the landscape on site. Here we look for the right motif and point of view, talk about the single picture and the series, learn how to correctly evaluate light and shadow in the landscape and how composition and detail influence the picture.
Oktober 31: Meeting at 10 am. The workshop participants present their work and report on their own observations and experiences. The aim is to engage in a dialogue about one's own work and to assess one's own and others' abilities.
November 1st: Meeting at 10 am. In the beginning, large-format photography is compared with digital techniques. The comparison pictures of all three systems (analog large format film, digital stitching, 35mm and high-resolution medium format camera) of the previous workshop will be viewed and evaluated. A discussion and exchange of experiences on the results will take place. We discuss criteria for image selection, appropriate size, juxtaposition of single image and series, presentation in exhibition, photo book, magazines under the question: What has to be considered when editing and presenting landscape images? In addition, we will discuss the art market, publishing houses, galleries, museums, photo festivals and photo art fairs.
Equipment
Each participant is asked to bring their portfolios with their works (20–30 images) in printed format.

Critical landscape photography realized with analog large format camera and digital technology
A workshop on two weekends for all those who would like to further their photographic expertise with analogue large format and digital technologies. Internationally acclaimed photographer, Olaf Otto Becker address the technical as well as content-related questions about critical landscape photography. This workshop enables participants to work on a topic over a longer period of time.

Olaf Otto Becker was born in Travemünde in 1959. From 1981 to 1986 he studied communication design with a focus on photography and concept in Augsburg. He then studied philosophy at the Maximilian University in Munich until 1988. Since 1988 he has devoted himself to landscape photography with his large-format camera.
Olaf Otto Becker is interested in the traces of humanity, which can be found all over the world due to the increase in overpopulation. The quality of the single picture is just as important to him as that of series of images.
His works have been shown for many years in national and international solo and group exhibitions. Extensive publications at home and abroad accompany his work.
