Evaluation of photographs, collecting photographs, photo-market, history of photography.


Workshop Schedule

Meet 10 am. After a short introduction into the history of the photography market, the professional terminology will be explained. Afterwards the media specific criteria for determining value will be presented and then illustrated on the basis of practical exercises with original photographs.


Equipment

Participants can submit one photograph (as a digital file) no later than April 12, 2019 to akademie@fffrankfurt.org. From these submissions, participants will be asked to bring photographs from their collection which will be used during the course to assess the uniqueness and the value.

Please bring a magnifying glass or a whaling glass.

The subject of this workshop is to discuss the evaluation of photographs as collectibles.

Simone Klein (*1967) is a photography specialist and consultant based in Cologne, Germany. She brings a 20 years experience in the auction and gallery business with profound knowledge in European 19th century, classical 20th century and contemporary photography. Educated in France and Germany with a master degrees in Art History and History of Photography from the Sorbonne and the University of Bonn, Simone has consecutively worked for Rudolf Kicken Gallery, Lempertz Auctioneers, Sotheby’s London and Paris (as Head of the European Photography Department for almost 10 years), and at Magnum Photos in Paris as Global Sales Director. She is a frequent lecturer, jury member and curator.

Since 2018, Simone is an independent appraiser and advisor specialized in Photography, based in Cologne, Germany.
