With her black and white images Graciela Iturbide (*1942) brings us the shadows of human existence: Tradition, beliefs, culture and death are common themes for the artist. The FFF honours the Mexican photographer icon with her first retrospective in Germany. On view are ground-breaking works such as “Juchitán de las Mujeres”, about the matriarchal society in Oaxaca, Mexico or portraits of Los Angeles gang members, women and men, from the 1980s. Also on view are intimate images made in the house of Frida Kahlo as well as photographs of gardens, landscapes and birds from India, Korea, Mexico or Italy.
