The Fotografie Forum Frankfurt (FFF) is one of the leading independent centers for photography in Europe. Since its founding in 1984, the FFF has presented more than 300 exhibitions featuring contemporary and historically significant positions in photography. These have included internationally renowned solo artists, among them many icons of photographic history, as well as group exhibitions, new discoveries, and emerging talents. Many of these artistic positions were presented in Germany for the first time.
The FFF ACADEMY is a platform for critical dialogue and photographic expression. Through workshops, talks, and special events international photographers and artists, alongside experts and media specialists, convey the versatility and transformation of the medium.
Every three years, the international RAY Triennial of Photography, co-founded by the FFF, takes place. In collaboration with key partners and collections across the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main metropolitan region, the triennial is dedicated to international photographic arts, fostering their presentation and strengthening professional networks. The sixth edition is scheduled for 2027.
The FFF is located in the Braubachstraße, the art and cultural mile in Frankfurt am Main’s historic centre. The institution is housed in a listed historic building, spanning two floors with exhibition spaces as well as areas for events, knowledge exchange, and administration.
The Kontorhaus was built in 1927 as a modern urban residential and commercial building, based on a design by Adam Heinrich Aßmann. Its façade is structured in balanced proportions and articulated by a series of arches on the ground floor. The colour scheme of the exterior façade, the inner courtyard, and the office spaces has been carefully restored to reflect the original appearance of the 1920s. In addition, period-typical wired glass panels have been preserved in several doors.
The FFF is a non-profit organisation financed through memberships, admission fees, the sale of books and editions, as well as funding from the City of Frankfurt am Main and external sponsors.
The FFF is a corporate member of the German Photo Council (Deutscher Fotorat), the national umbrella organization for photography in Germany.
The leadership team consists of Artistic Director Prof. Celina Lunsford and Managing Director Alexandra Lechner.
