FFF JUNIOr

The 2025 programme

As part of the FFF Academy, the unique art education programme FFF Junior promotes the use of the camera and the medium of photography and has for many years complemented the educational offerings of Fotografie Forum Frankfurt with the expertise of photographers and artists.

FFF Junior 2025 is supported by the German Museums Association as part of the “Museum macht stark” programme, the Dr. Marschner Stiftung, the Metzler Stiftung and FFF main sponsor Fujifilm Electronic Imaging Europe GmbH.

Once again this year, various educational formats for children and young people take place at Fotografie Forum Frankfurt.

The first multi-day FFF Junior workshop took place from April 14 to 17, 2025. Thirteen children from Kinderhaus Gallus enjoyed exploring photographic means of expression through questioning, discussion, and practice. Lisa Weber (art educator) and Miriam Stanke (photographer) led the workshop. Arne Hanisch and the Kinderhaus Gallus team provided educational support.

The workshop focused on independent photography as well as viewing and analyzing works from the Fotografie Forum Frankfurt's current exhibition, “Michael Kerstgens. Out of Control,” (March 8–May 11, 2025) as well as their own photographs. The children had the opportunity to talk about their lives and everyday life through pictures. They learned how to use a camera, went on a photo safari, built their own pinhole camera, and developed analog photographs, among other activities.

During the workshop, the children took their own photo series, which will be on display at the FFF Junior exhbition “Der Blick klickt!” starting May 6, 2025, at Kinderhaus Gallus. The group met again to curate the exhibition for the space at Kinderhaus Gallus.

The second FFF Junior workshop of the year took place under the title “Schattentanz” from July 8–11, 2025. After a joint visit to the exhibition “I’M SO HAPPY YOU ARE HERE – JAPANESE WOMEN PHOTOGRAPHERS FROM THE 1950s TO NOW” (May 24–September 7, 2025), ten children from the Internationales Kinderhaus Frankfurt explored the effects of light and shadow. Under the guidance of art educator Magdalena Kristahn and a professional photographer, the children engaged in playful experiments with cameras and lighting. They then learned the historical printing technique cyanotype and combined their photographs with drawings to create individual blueprints. The resulting works will be on view from July 17, 2025, in the exhibition Schattentanz at the International Children’s House Frankfurt.

Another FFF Junior workshop, led by Magdalena Kristahn (art educator) and Lena Bils (professional photographer) in cooperation with the Kinderkulturtreff Eschersheim, took place from July 21–25, 2025. Eleven children explored the exhibition “I’M SO HAPPY YOU ARE HERE” under the motto “Interesting is better than good.” The workshop encouraged them to experiment with perspectives, frames, and unusual viewpoints – reflecting the title’s philosophy that interesting is more important than perfect. In addition to camera exercises and cyanotypes on paper and fabric, the children created their own frames from collected branches. The finished works will be displayed from September 19, 2025, in the FFF Junior exhibition Interesting is better than good at the Kinderkulturtreff Eschersheim.
