Inspired by the curatorial approach of Kolaj Magazine and focusing on the use of photography, historical context, and narrative depth, this workshop moves away from "scrapbooking" and treats collage as a fine art medium. We will explore how to disrupt context, create surrealist narratives, and use the "uncanny" to build new worlds from existing imagery.

Participants will learn about the history of collages from Dadaism to the contemporary context. We’ll go through the processes of sourcing material and selecting images for texture, scale, and narrative potential. We’ll learn about precision cutting, experimenting with X-Acto knifes, scissors and seamless gluing as well as learn about composition, layering of images, negative space and juxtaposition. All culminating in the creation of a personal, narrative artwork.
