Generative artificial intelligence is fundamentally reshaping photography as we know it. It creates new visual worlds and challenges established ways of seeing. In response to this transformation, the Fotografie Forum Frankfurt, together with its managing director and photographer Alexandra Lechner and communication designer Christian Schön, devotes a workshop to this topic as part of Frankfurt World Design Capital 2026.
In the workshop, participants are guided in working with current AI models, developing prompts, and testing image variations. They learn how AI-generated images can be integrated into photographic workflows, from mood boards to final compositions. At the same time, the workshop offers space for reflection: Where are the limits? And where do new forms of visual storytelling emerge?
The aim of the format is to provide orientation within a rapidly evolving field. Participants are encouraged to understand how AI can be used as a tool in digital transformation — consciously, critically, and with a clear personal and creative position. The event directly engages with the theme “Design for Democracy. Atmospheres for a Better Life” by addressing the central question of how trust, orientation, and critical judgment can be maintained in a time when images are easier to produce but harder to interpret. The focus lies on the responsible handling of visual information and on shaping a public visual culture that remains reliable.
A Fotografie Forum Frankfurt contribution to FRANKFURT WORLD DESIGN CAPITAL 2026.

Christian Schön is a communication designer and creative director. For more than two decades, he has been developing visual identities and brand communication for international clients. After completing his studies, he worked at Jung von Matt in Hamburg, Frankfurt, and Beijing. His clients include brands such as Nike, Mercedes-Benz, and MTV, as well as cultural institutions including the SCHIRN Kunsthalle and the Palmengarten Frankfurt.
With his studio eyeye in Frankfurt, Christian Schön focuses on generative image production at the intersection of design, photography, and artificial intelligence. He is interested in how photographic aesthetics can be reinterpreted and further developed through machine-based image models. He understands artificial intelligence as a tool rather than an author. His practice is based on precise prompting, consistent curation, iteration, and meticulous refinement until concept, composition, and tonality align.
Christian Schön also supports cultural organizations and companies in integrating generative AI responsibly into business processes and brand communication. He lives and works in Frankfurt am Main.
