Including pictures from all phases of his more than thirty years of work, the Fotografie Forum Frankfurt presents a comprehensive exhibition of the American photographer Peter Fink (1907, Grand Rapids – 1984, New York City).
PETER FINK. MY MIND’S EYE conveys the artist’s impressive variety of subjects and his respectful empathy for models and motifs. With works partially never shown before, the FFF show sheds light on Fink’s life and work – providing an opportunity for a fundamental reappraisal of one of America‘s most successful photographers.
His penchant for beauty shaped his life: Peter Fink was initially a designer and art director in New York and Paris, creating showrooms and presentations of luxury products by Lanvin and couture by Lelong. From the late 1940s onwards, he travelled through France, Italy, Portugal, North Africa, South America, Asia and his home country, the USA, among others for fashion shots – and made the camera his eye for all the worlds he discovered.
Fink photographed street scenes, people in the country and heads of society or children at play. Mostly in black and white, like the architecture, which he later photographed experimentally. His works have been shown in more than 50 major solo exhibitions worldwide and have been included in the collections of renowned museums, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris, and the Museum of Modern Art, Frankfurt am Main.
The book PETER FINK. MY MIND'S EYE (208 pages, 24 x 28,8 cm, 176 black-and-white and 11 colour illustrations, Kehrer Verlag Heidelberg Berlin, 2020; ISBN 978-3-86828-986-2) which, like the exhibition, was produced in collaboration with the Estage of Peter Fink, can be purchased for 38 € at the Fotografie Forum Frankfurt and in bookstores world-wide.
